MAJALIWA OPENED THE DISTRICT HOSPITAL NORTH B PANGATUPU

The Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa January 11, 2024 has opened the District Hospital located on the North B Unguja – Pangatupu with the capacity to serve more than one hundred thousand people within 31 Shehia of North B the district.

Speaking after the opening of the hospital which cost 6.7 billion shillings, Mr. Majaliwa said that it will help reduce the risk for residents of those areas to travel long distances to get health services.

Mr. Majaliwa has said that the construction of the hospital is the practical implementation of the mission of Mr. President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi to ensure that he invests in the health sector for the welfare of society.

“It is the mission of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and the vision of the Honorable Dr. Hussein Mwinyi to strengthen the infrastructure of the health sector to ensure that citizens receive services in a better environment and at acceptable levels.”

Mr. Majaliwa has said that the hospital will help access to the best medical services, especially specialist services that are provided from the District hospital level. “The existing infrastructure in this hospital will enable medical camps for specialist and general services to be held here with great success instead of only being held in city hospitals.”

In another step, Mr. Majaliwa has instructed the Ministry of Health to carry out a detailed assessment of the needs of the hospital as well as to ensure that it is assigned the necessary staff of all fields according to their cadres including doctors, nurses and other professionals.

Also, the Prime Minister has asked the employees of the health sector to continue working with integrity and dedication. “Having buildings and medical equipment is one part, but humanity, love and working based on work ethics are important in improving quality services for citizens.”

For his part, the Minister of Health Zanzibar, Nassor Ahmed Mazrui, said that during the 60 years of the Revolution, the number of beds for patients has increased from 1,445 to 2,645, the number of intensive care units (ICU) has increased from 1 to 14 , operating rooms have increased from 11 to 35, of which 13 are for mothers, and emergency services units have increased from 2 to 13.
