The Zanzibaris have been encouraged to develop the habit of examining their health status regularly

THE CITIZENS of the Zanzibar islands have been asked to develop the habit of examining their health, including the eyes, in order to overcome various effects that may occur in the eyes.

The call has been issued by the Director of Prevention and Health Education Zanzibar Dr. Salim Slim in Tumbatu in celebration of World Vision Day which is celebrated every year on the 12th of the tenth month and this year’s message is “love your eyes while at work”

He has said that if the citizens will have the habit of doing an eye examination, it will help to identify early the indicators that can cause similar diseases and be given appropriate and timely treatment and avoid serious problems including blindness.

He has asked citizens to come to the nearest health centers for further action when they feel any changes in the eyes, including pain, itching or blurred vision.

Dr. Slim has noted that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, through the Ministry of Health in collaboration with development stakeholders, continues to promote various health services including eye care in the community to facilitate access to these services.

For his part, the guarantee doctor of the North District ‘A’ Dr. Himid Said has said that it has become a habit of some members of the community who are referred to various medical camps not to reach the places they were directed for further treatment.

So he has asked the community to use the appeals because the ministry has prepared a good procedure to receive these patients and their treatment is available free of charge.

And the Coordinator of the Christian Blind Mission Zanzibar Mkelemi Abdulrahman has said that their institution will continue to cooperate with the government in providing various services to the community to facilitate access to these services.

On the part of the citizens who benefited from the treatment, they thanked the institutions that organized the camp and asked them to continue providing various health services regularly.

More than 200 citizens have had their vision examined and it was found that they have poor vision problems, eye pressure, itchy eyes and they have received various treatments.

In another step, the Director of Prevention and Health Education has visited the Tumbatu Gomani health center with the aim of seeing for himself the provision of various health services including mother and child health and asking parents and guardians to take their children to the center to get vaccinations.
