The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council of Zanzibar Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi is expected to launch a national program for Community health workers to focus on officially recognizing them, building their professional capacity and creating an enabling environment for them to work.
The Minister of Health said this yesterday to the journalists at his offices at Mnazimmoja, Hon. Nassor Ahmed Mazrui, said that they want to officially introduce the chv as an important link of the ministry at the community level.
He said, the goal is to increase awareness among all the health workers and development stakeholders to recognize community-level health workers so that they can give them more cooperation and appropriate aid to increase the effectiveness of their work.
He said “We want to persuade the government and various stakeholders to direct their priorities to this good future, so that they allocate funds to support the implementation of community health programs, including providing them with an enabling environment for the performance of their work,”.
In addition, he said, they intend to inform the public and various stakeholders about the intention of the Ministry of Health in changes are expected soon for those workers to make it an official cadre that is recognized and accepted in the Ministry of Health.
Minister Mazrui also noted that another goal is to make it a professional cadre, and gradually to be able to integrate that cadre into the employment system as the situation allows and to increase the number of those workers from the 2300 who were currently serving the Shehia of Zanzibar to reach 3000 in order for them to work more efficiently and save preventable deaths in Zanzibar.
However, he said the ministry wants to increase their monthly allowance according to their work as the situation allows, to build capacity by providing them with long-term theoretical and practical training so that they can work fluently and efficiently.
He said “All these plans will be able to be implemented well only if we are able to join together and help move this mission forward,”.
