The NED Institute help to treat head disease, spine and nerves at the Manazimjoja Hospital

The Minister of Health Zanzibar Nassor Ahmed Mazrui has said that the NED Institute has been able to help treat diseases of the head, spine and nerves in the main hospital of Manazimjoja and so far more than 200 camps have been held and they have successfully operated on more than three thousand patients.

Opening the training for the examination of the human brain involving doctors from different countries and from here in the country, Minister Mazrui has said that doctors from Spain and doctors from other countries in collaboration with the people from here, have been able to perform surgery on the people of Zanzibar with various problems

He has said that the problems include major surgery of the head, back, and congenital diseases in collaboration with the NED Institute which continues to pay for medical equipment including a microscope for surgery and medicine where nearly two million dollars have been used.

He also informed that the NED institution in collaboration with Mnazimmoja Hospital has been able to obtain permission and be allowed to start Neurosurgery courses and currently they already have local students and foreigners from different countries doing their academic rotation at Mnazimmoja hospital.

Minister Mazrui has said that the number of specialists in head, spine and nerve surgery has increased from one in 2015 to four in 2023 and three more are expected to complete their studies soon.

For his part, the Head of Health Schools and Medical Sciences SUZA Dr. Salma Abdi Mahmoud has said that they are grateful to have the opportunity to collaborate with the NED Foundation and the Ministry of Health in developing the health industry.

She said that in the training there are 32 students who have joined with doctors from Mnazimmoja and learned practically and the profession offered by doctors from Spain.

The NED institute has started working since November 2014. In 2015 official opened by the president of the seventh phase and until now the institute has completed nine years and was able to achieve several successes and the institute is doing its work with great cooperation with local and foreign doctors where more than doctors 851 foreigners from different parts of the world such as Spain, United States, Germany, Chile and Kenya have already come to work with the institution.
