The Ministry of Health Zanzibar through the NCD Division in collaboration with the Government of China, Jiangsu Province, continues with the cervical cancer screening camp held at Mnazi One Hospital.
The Minister of Health Zanzibar Nassor Ahmed Mazrui has said that in strengthening the health of the people of Zanzibar, the screening exercise for cervical cancer along with treatment will continue to be carried out with the aim of solving the challenge for mothers in this country.
He has informed that the purpose of the exercise is to check the safety of the cervix against cancer and those who will be diagnosed with cervical cancer, a treatment procedure will be prepared in this country and those who will be required to receive more treatment abroad will be treated free of charge.
He has asked all women who have reached the age of 18 to 69 to come to Manazimjoma Hospital for cervical cancer screening in collaboration with doctors from China and local experts and there are enough equipment and medicines for this services.
On the other hand, the manager of non-communicable diseases in Zanzibar, Dr. Omar Mohamed Suleiman, has said that the investigation is ongoing at Mnazimmoja Hospital where they also expect to reach the community including SMZ forces, Union forces, as well as universities with the aim of reaching mothers in those areas.
He has urged all mothers aged from 18 to 69 who have already had sex to attend the examination to be able to identify themselves early and if they already have signs of the disease or have the disease to provide them with treatment and be able to get rid of the disease.
He informed that the state of cervical cancer in the world is one of the leading cancers that affect many mothers in the world, followed by breast cancer, approximately two hundred and seventy-five mothers suffer from cervical cancer every year, while in Zanzibar there is still no accurate statistics about the disease.
He said that due to the cooperation between the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar and China, the five-phase cervical cancer screening exercise will enable them to continue to provide results to know the real situation of cervical cancer in this country.
On the part of the Director of Cancer Diseases from Najing Hospital in China, Dr. Huaijun Zhou has said that the goal of cervical cancer screening in this country is the continuation of the screening of the disease.
He has informed that in the four phases that took place they were able to examine 16,500 women and among them 840 women were found to have cervical cancer at an early stage and 90 were found to have advanced cancer and in this fifth phase they expect to examine about five thousand women.
