Minister of Health Zanzibar Nassor Ahmed Mazrui has said that the coming of the Mmama project will help reduce maternal deaths in the country.
Speaking to journalists towards the launch of equipment for expectant mothers through the Mmama project provided by Vodacom Tanzania Foundation which will be provided at Kizimkazi by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, said Mmama is doing a great job and has already served them with a thousand nine hundred and four in Unguja and Pemba health centers.
He has informed that the Mmama project has greatly helped to reduce maternal deaths and enable mothers to reach health centers on time during childbirth.
For her side, the Director of Vodacom Tanzania Foundation Zuwena Fara has said that in collaboration with the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, USAID and the Government of the Republic of Tanzania have collaborated to create a special system to help mothers with reproductive problems and use the telephone to make it easier to get services on time .
She has said that since starting to use the system which was officially launched last year in Dodoma and pilot Shinyanga, they have been able to reduce deaths from childbirth by 40 percent and in Zanzibar it has started to be used this year and by the ninth month it will be used in all of Tanzania.
Vodacom Tanzania Foundation Manager Sandra Oswad has said that the Mmama system through their Vodacom company works closely with the system owned by the Government with the main goal of enabling pregnant mothers to reach the health center safely and be able to give birth safely.
