The First Vice President of Zanzibar Hon. Othman Masoud Othman, has asked doctors and health workers in the country to strive to provide better services to the community so that the government’s efforts to help each other and development philanthropists in strengthening health services can bring more productivity to the people.
Hon. Othman has said this at Kizimkazi Dimbani, South Unguja region, when he visited after opening the Mother and Child Health Center that was donated by philanthropists from Oman as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen access to health services in Zanzibar.
Hon. The vice president has said that doing so is also a practical way to show appreciation for the development aid provided by various philanthropists in support of the government’s efforts to strengthen services for its citizens.
He has informed that the health of a child who can have good development and a strong mind begins at the stage of having access to services and good nutrition for the mother and that it is important for health workers to strive to develop the provision of health education for mothers.
He said that the nation needs fit young people with good health that comes from mothers having proper nutrition and being able to properly breastfeed the child from the initial stage of birth in order to build the foundations of his health in accordance with professional procedures.
In addition, he said that it is the responsibility of the citizens and health workers to cooperate in taking care of the health centers so that they can last and fulfill the goals of bringing productive services to the citizens.
On his part, the Minister of Health Zanzibar Hon. Nassor Ahmed Mazrui, has said that the government through the ministry is making every effort to ensure that the health services for the community in the country are properly improved in order to achieve the world’s goals.
He has informed that as a result of this action, the government also by January 2024, intends to carry out major repairs to the Mnazimmoja Referral Hospital in Zanzibar so that it can have status and have a modern level of service provision in the country.
The sponsor of the construction of the center which cost more than 77 million Tanzanian shillings, has said that this step is the beginning of the continuation of supporting Zanzibar in the access to services in the sector.
