The Ministry of Health Zanzibar has said that it intends to strengthen its systems of importing drugs, medical equipment, distribution and storage of drugs in its depots in Unguja and Pemba through experts from South Africa through the American aid organization USAID.
This was stated by the Zanzibar Minister of Health Nassor Ahmed Mazrui when he met and held talks with experts from South Africa through the American aid organization USAID who are in the country with the aim of helping to strengthen the systems of drug importation, medical supplies, distribution and storage of drugs.
He said that the move to strengthen the systems comes after the Ministry of Health enacted the Law on the Central Drug Depot Agency which has already been read for the first time in the House of Representatives where the expectation of the Sharia will be ready in 2024.
He has informed that after the completion of the Sharia law, it will give full authority to the central warehouse of all medicines and medical supplies in Zanzibar, which will have warehouses in Unguja and Pemba, as well as having the responsibilities of ordering all medicines and medical supplies, as well as storing and distributing them in a systematic manner. which was of high quality.
In addition, he said that, in order to have a Depot with good reputation, it must have internationally recognized systems, so the Ministry of Health will ensure that it strengthens its systems with the aim of providing good drug services as well as medical equipment and asked the American organization USAID to help develop all the necessary things. related to the Central Drug Depot as an agent.
In Nyengiene, Minister Mazrui held talks with a delegation from the World Bank and discussed the entire health sector issues including strengthening primary health services as well as a delegation from the World Bank that will arrive at the beginning of November to inspect various projects being implemented.
