The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has said that it will continue to strengthen primary health services for all areas of Unguja and Pemba with the aim of improving safe maternity services, dental and oral treatment, ultrasound examination and laboratory services to be available effectively. with all primary health centers for all areas of the country.
President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, said this at the opening of the Health Center, Bubwini Makoba, North B District , North Unguja Region.
He said, the Government continues to strengthen the infrastructure, the availability of essential drugs, medical equipment, and human resources including doctors, nurses, pharmacists and other important professionals needed in the health sector.
In addition, Dr. Mwinyi explained the Government’s desire to build staff houses for some hospitals in the District, Unguja and Pemba to reduce the problem of accommodation for health sector employees and make them stay at their work centers all the time so that they can continue to provide services especially for emergency cases.
He explained that the move will further improve the referral system and significantly reduce the speed of patients going to Mnazi Mmoja Hospital and reduce the backlog of Mnazi Mmoja patients.
Dr. Mwinyi said, despite the existence of some challenges in the Health sector, including the shortage of skilled workers and specialists in various Health cadres, the situation he described causes the Government to spend a lot of money on the treatment of citizens outside Zanzibar.
President Dr. Mwinyi, explained that in response to the situation, the Government has decided to collaborate with the private sector who will continue to serve Government hospitals, including diagnostic services, especially for areas that have been strengthened in its implementation.
He said the intention of the Government is to achieve the goals it has set to ensure good services to its citizens within the required time at all hospitals and health centers in all areas of the country.
“I have decided to explain this because there are some people who have deliberately started misleading and deceiving the people, this procedure has been successfully used in the Mnazi Mmoja hospital and will be continued in all our District hospitals as well as the Lumumba Regional hospital located in the Western Urban Region” He said Dr.Mwinyi.
In another step, President Dr. Mwinyi instructed all employees who will be sent to work at the Bumbwini Makoba Health Center to strive to maintain the existing infrastructure, to work with a spirit of dedication and compassion for patients and to adhere to the ethics of their work and to use good language for the patients they will serve.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Health, Nassor Ahmeid Mazrui said, the construction of the center is the implementation of the efforts of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar to strengthen primary health centers throughout the country to improve health services in parallel with the construction of 11 hospitals including 10 District and one of the Region.
And, Acting Secretary General Ministry of Health, Dr. Amour Suleiman, said the construction of the center started on May 14, 2022 and was completed in June this year, which has cost 450, 770, 400 million shillings until its completion, where various clinical services are provided by the center, including services for pregnant mothers and children, laboratories and ultrasound, medical equipment, dental, special care, modern machines for testing non-infectious diseases including blood pressure, sugar and electrocardiogram machines.
