Midwives and Nurses should work professionally to avoid criticism from the public

NURSES and Midwives in the country have been required to change in the performance of their work and be able to provide quality services and avoid complaints to the people.

The call was made by the Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Ministry of Health, Zanzibar, Mwanaisha Juma Fakih, at the 29th session of the Council of Nurses and Midwives, as well as the ceremony to bid farewell to the Chairperson of the Council and welcome the new Chairman.

She said that despite the great efforts made by the members of the Nursing and Midwifery Council to monitor the nurses and midwives in their workplaces as well as the colleges that offer professions in the field, there is still a need for deliberate efforts to see that the work is done with great efficiency.

She has informed that in the implementation of their work in the Nursing and Midwifery cadre, they will consider the whole issue of the profession for its employees as well as the profession offered in colleges to be able to keep up with the time on the provision of health services to the people.

She wanted the Council of Nurses and Midwives to work collaboratively and be able to provide solutions to the challenges faced by employees and to have supervision for service providers to be able to overcome complaints.

On his part, the Director of Hospital Services, Ministry of Health, Zanzibar, Dr. Msafiri Marijani, said there is a need to look at the entire issue of professionalism for his employees, including the students who were in the colleges in order to get rid of employees who do not have skills.

He said that workers with sufficient knowledge and getting their entitlements and having good management from their bosses along with the Council of Nurses and Midwives will get rid of complaints from relatives of patients.

On the part of the Chairman of the Nursing and Midwifery Council, who has completed her term in the Council, Amina Abdulkadir said that the Nursing and Midwifery cadre is still facing various challenges, including reducing deaths from childbirth, foul language for patients and relatives of patients, buildings to provide the professionalism of the cadre as well as the offices of the Council.

She has informed that in response to maternal deaths, nurses and midwives need to conduct research especially when they are at their workplace.
And the Chairman of the Zanzibar Pregnancy and Midwifery Council Sharifa Awadh Salmin has said that she will work in collaboration with the Council with the aim of strengthening health services in the country.

She said that Nurses and Midwives are doing a great job in providing services to patients in hospitals and health centers, so he will ensure that the challenges they face are solved in cooperation with the Council.
