The Ministry of Health Zanzibar has said that it is making an effort to strengthen the Health Research Institute ZAHRI so that it can provide scientific information that will help control human diseases.
This was explained by the director of operational services Mwatoum Ramadhan Mussa in a collaboration meeting between the National Institute for Research on Human Diseases NIMRI and the Zanzibar Health Research Institute ZAHRI.
She has said that in strengthening the Health Research Institute here in the country, the Ministry of Health will invest in hiring professionals with the ability to carry out strategies to facilitate coping with and eliminating various diseases.
She has informed that due to the existing cooperation between the National Institute of Human Disease Research and the Zanzibar Health Research Institute, it will enable the exchange of experience as well as providing more careers to Zanzibar researchers due to the great knowledge they have.
On his part, the Director General of the National Institute for Research on Human Diseases, NIMRI, Professor Said Shebe Aboud, has said that the purpose of coming to this country is the implementation of the agreement following the signing of the cooperation agreement to strengthen the entire research issues.
He has informed that the National Disease Research Institute NIMRI has taken a big step in the implementation of their work where they have seven centers in Tanzania and Dare es Salam has two centers and they have been able to conduct various researches.
He has said that they will continue cooperation with Zanzibar by conducting research, training for its employees by going to their centers including Mbeya in order to bring about changes in the Zanzibar Health Research Institute.
Early presenting the report of ZAHRI Health Research Institute, Director of internal operations at the Institute, Bernard Mtuta said that the establishment of the Institute was the result of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar recognizing the importance of access to scientific information that will help plan various strategies for treatment and control of diseases.
He said that despite the fact that the ZAHRI Institute is faced with a shortage of workers, they have made it possible to conduct various studies in collaboration with other institutions where they have been able to conduct studies including looking at the actual condition of skin diseases in Micheweni Pemba, a study of community guidelines related to 19 infections as well as getting opinions of citizens related to the disease.
He has informed other studies that they have done is a study to find out the immunity of the 19 diseases in Human bodies as well as studies of mothers who have reached the age of giving birth.
He said that the Institute continues to conduct various researches, including the increase in the value of herbal medicines, research to find out the causes and indicators of kidney disease for the people of Zanzibar.
On the part of the researchers from the research center located in Mbeya, they have explained how the methods they use to achieve success in their research are due to the strengthened capacity from their main institute NIMRI in different sectors including the research itself and issues of statistical analysis.
