The Deputy Health Minister Zanzibar Hassan Khamis Hafidh has asked the community to follow services in health centers including maternal and child health services.
He made the call in Tumbatu during the handover of the mother and child health center immediately after it was repaired and installed of fresh water tank by donors from Oman.
He has said that the great ambition of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar is to reduce deaths from childbirth and newborns, so he has asked citizens to use the center to overcome various problems caused by childbirth.
He said this at the handover ceremony of the renovation project of the mother and child building and the construction of a tower and the installation of a fresh water tank.
He also informed that the Ministry of Health is continuing with a plan to strengthen services and infrastructure so that mothers can give birth safely.
In achieving the government’s mandate to provide quality health services, he has asked DHMT to enable it to provide health services 24 hours for reproductive services.
He has also given instructions to the head of the district to get direct cooperation with the KMKM task force in emergency boat transport services in order to reduce the risk of maternal and child deaths.
He has thanked Oman’s philanthropists as well as all donors including PBZ, UNFPA and Benjamin Mkapa for continuing to help in the health sector at the Tumbatu Gombani center.
The director general of the Zanzibar Ministry of Health, Dr. Amour Suleiman Mohd, has commended the health workers for fulfilling their responsibilities in maintaining infrastructure to be able to provide sustainable services.

He said there is still a challenge in maternal and child deaths due to the 2022 studies showing the deaths of pregnant mothers among one hundred and ten mothers die during pregnancy, during delivery and after delivery.
Therefore, he has asked the Executives of primary health centers to provide better services and ensure that they can detect dangerous symptoms early so that mothers can give birth safely.

Also, the philanthropists from Oman who helped with the renovation and installation of water in the center have promised to continue cooperation in helping the Ministry of Health.
