The Ministry of Health Zanzibar has received a donation of 10 million shillings from the company ABE MWANGAZA CO LTD of Dares Salaam to support the transport of pregnant mothers when they go to give birth through the Mmama project.
Receiving the donation, Minister of Health Zanzibar Nassor Ahmed Mazrui said that the donation will help and reduce maternal deaths by being able to encourage pregnant mothers to give birth in the hospital through a special program to reduce maternal deaths.
He has informed that the Mmama program involves collecting funds that help the availability of transportation to the hospital to give birth and the main goal of the program is to reduce maternal deaths.
Minister Mazrui has called on businessmen, companies and various institutions to support the Mmama program by donating funds that will support all issues of maternal and child health services, especially during childbirth.
On her part, the Director of ABE Mwangaza CO.LTD Eunice Bushanga has said that she has been touched by the deaths of pregnant mothers and infants and has seen the need to help the money for transportation through the Mother Project.
In another step, the Minister of Health Nassor Ahmed Mazrui has held talks with a delegation from the Aster DM Healthcare community in Dubai who are busy providing services using mobile clinics.
He said that the message will enable Zanzibar to provide services through mobile clinics by passing through various places in Unguja and Pemba to provide health services and they expect to start providing these services in the tenth month of this year.
He has informed that apart from these services, they will also help build the capacity of Health sector workers by providing them with training to be able to provide better health services in this country.
On the part of the representative of the Mission, he said that they have seen the need to provide these mobile services in this country with the aim of improving access to services, especially in rural areas.
He informed that mobile clinical services have been successful in various countries and help to provide services close to the citizens.
