The President of Zanzibar has opened the Building of Emergency Medical Services and Laboratories at the Makunduchi Health Center

The President of Zanzibar and the Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has said that the construction of a new building for emergency medical services and a modern laboratory is one of the efforts taken by the Government to strengthen the infrastructure of Health services so that they can go along with the changes in development of health services in the world.

Speaking immediately after opening the building of emergency medicine and laboratory services at the Makunduchi Health Center, Dr. Mwinyi has said that the Government will continue to take various measures to strengthen health services at all levels so that citizens can get close and quality services.

He said that the action is for the implementation of the Election Manifesto of the CCM Revolutionary Party for the year 2020-2025 as well as the promises made during the general election campaigns in 2020.

In addition, he informed that in the health sector, the implementation has been done by finishing building and opening 10 district hospitals and one in Lumumba Region, all of which have been equipped with modern equipment and professionals to provide services to citizens according to the level of the respective hospital.

He said that the Government of the Eighth Phase will continue to build regional hospitals in the remaining regions, including the South Unguja Region where a sponsor has already been found and the area is already there and the sponsor has submitted the initial drawings of what the hospital will be like.

He said that for the financial year 2023/2024, the Government will continue to strengthen access to health services at the primary level, where the action is the implementation of a new government program in the provision of health services at the primary level, including strengthening the infrastructure by building new buildings and expand some health centers throughout the country.

The construction will go hand in hand with the installation of modern equipment with the aim of providing the best health services including emergency and preliminary examination at the primary level with the aim of reducing unexpected deaths.

For his part, Deputy Minister of Health Hassan Khams Hafidh has said that the health sector has been able to make great strides in this eighth phase, where hospitals have been built and equipped with modern equipment and the number of beds has increased, while patient services have improved.

He has asked the health workers to provide quality services to the citizens who come to get services in hospitals in order to be able to overcome the complaints of the citizens.

On the part of the Acting General Secretary of the Ministry of Health Dr. Amour Suleiman Mohamed said that the health center was used as a district hospital and was providing services to more than 63,156 citizens of all 21 districts of the Southern District.

The hospital was facing the challenge of not having an emergency medical building and a laboratory, there was only one room which was not compatible with the quality of laboratory services according to the existing guidelines.

In addition, he has informed that the funding of the building is the development partners HIPZ through Lady Fatemah trust and Action Medeor as well as managing the quality of services provided at the center where it has cost 650 million shillings, medical equipment worth 150 million.

On the part of the donors who helped to build the building, Mukhtar Karim through Lady Fatemah Trust said that the goal of building is to strengthen health services including mother and child in order to reduce maternal and child deaths as well as to strengthen mental health services in this country.

He has said that they will continue to support the health sector in this country in different areas including mother and child, mental health, equipment and expertise for its employees.

For his part, the representative from HIPZ Simon Kuhnet has said that they will continue to support the efforts of the Zanzibar Welfare Government in strengthening social services.

He said that HIPZ has been able to carry out its work here in the country by strengthening health methods, medical equipment and building the capacity of health sector workers.
