The Ministry of Health Zanzibar has signed a contract for the renovation and expansion of Mnazi mmoja Hospital

The Zanzibar Ministry of Health has signed a contract with the guiding consultant of the Al Abdulhadi Engineering Consultancy Company of Kuwait and its partner Apex Engineering of Tanzania for the major renovation and expansion of the Mnazimmoja Referral Hospital.

The General Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Fatma Mrisho, has said that the major renovation that is expected to start soon will cost one hundred billion shillings, which is a loan from Kuwait, Fund Saud Fund and BADEA.

She informed that the contract will involve carrying out a feasibility study, preparing drawings, doing an analysis along with construction costs, documents for finding a bidder and preparing the characteristics of medical equipment which will take a period of eight months.

In addition, she said that it is the hope of the Ministry of Health that when the hospital is completed, it will be the largest hospital in East Africa and will be used for diseases that require high-quality care.

She said the Government through the Ministry of Health is making an effort to complete the construction of District and Regional Hospitals at Lumumba and to ensure that each region has its own Hospital to be able to serve the people with high efficiency.
