The Ministry of Health Zanzibar has said it will continue to cooperate with international organizations to eliminate Malaria in Zanzibar

The Ministry of Health Zanzibar has said that it will continue to cooperate with international organizations and other stakeholders to ensure that they eliminate Malaria in the country.

Opening the one-day meeting of the Action Plan for the year 2025 that involved stakeholders and international organizations, the Director of Prevention and Health Education, Ministry of Health Zanzibar, Dr. Salim Slim said that efforts are being made for citizens to protect themselves from the disease.

He said that in the past seventeen to twenty years, Zanzibar was able to do great things to control Malaria diseases to a large extent, however in the recent period there was an outbreak of these diseases caused by changes in the country’s climate.

He said that due to the situation, the Ministry of Health in collaboration with International Organizations and other stakeholders were able to do a great job of controlling the disease where currently the disease has decreased significantly in this country and asked the people to use protection against the disease.

He informed that the goal of the Government is to ensure that every citizen is given immunity against Malaria and that he uses it properly with the aim of eliminating and protecting himself from Malaria in this country.

On the part of the Program Manager to end Malaria in Zanzibar Shija Joseph Shija has said that the aim of the meeting is to bring together stakeholders who support the fight against malaria and prepare a one-year work plan and submit and be able to approve funds for use.

He praised the PMI Organization and other stakeholders for supporting the fight against Malaria and ensuring that they get funds to carry out the various tasks that they have planned with the aim of eliminating the disease.

He has informed that Zanzibar has taken a big step to end malaria in this country despite the outbreak of the disease in recent days where efforts were made to eliminate the disease and currently the disease has decreased significantly.

He has urged the people to continue to accept the work done by the Program to end Malaria for the community and to consider the method of protecting oneself from the disease, including sleeping in mosquito nets, spraying medicine at home as well as keeping the environment clean.

On his part, the Executive Secretary to fight Malaria, Tuberculosis and Aids in the office of the Second Vice President, Dr. Abdalla Suleiman, said that the big role they are doing is to help in finding fund, experts to be able to continue the work according to the scheduled time.

He has informed that in carrying out these works they are giving money in the World Global Fund project and already for this year 2024 they have signed a contract in accordance with the requirements of those programs.

On the part of the Director dealing with Health Affairs, USAID has said that they have been able to help various countries including Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda in the fight against Malaria and achieved great success.

He said that they will continue their efforts in Zanzibar in the program to end Malaria in order to be able to get rid of the disease.
