The Deputy Minister of Health has said that the Government Officially Recognizes Community Health Workers (CHW)

The Deputy Minister of Health Zanzibar Hon. Hassan Khamis Hafidh has said that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar has begun to recognize community health workers (CHW) in practice.

He said this while giving information to the media regarding the payment entitlements for the workers, at the Ministry’s Offices at Mnazimmoja in Unguja.

He explained that all work and payment procedures for the workers continue to be worked on by the Ministry of Health through the Department of Prevention after being formalized by the President of Zanzibar and the Chairman of the Revolutionary Council Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi from community health volunteer (CHV) to become Community Health workers (CHW) December 16 last year.

“starting from January 2024, the entitlements of our employees will come from the Ministry of Health through our Department of Prevention”, explained the Deputy Minister.

In addition, he said that in recognition and appreciation of the contribution made by these employees in providing health services to the community, the Ministry has planned to improve these employees by providing them with 6-month training that will be accompanied by exams to strengthen their performance.

More than 2000 workers have been formalized from volunteer community health workers (CHV) to become community health workers (CHW), where they previously obtained their qualifications through the D-tree Institute.
