The Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar through the Ministry of Health will continue to ensure that anesthesia and sleep specialists are provided with the best environment for the performance of their work in order to continue to perform safe surgeries in all Hospitals in the country.
This was said by the Second Vice President of Zanzibar Hon. Hemed Suleiman Abdulla in the celebration of the world’s sleep experts’ day held at the Sheikh Idris Abdulwakil Kikwajuni Hall in Zanzibar.
He said that the profession of anesthesia and sleep is one of the most important professions in the health cadre, so the Government will ensure that it provides the best environment for those professionals, including providing them with all their interests and rights, as well as studies opportunities inside and outside the country to increase their morale in the performance of their work.
Along with that, he has called on health professionals to continue to provide services in accordance with their work ethics, including love, compassion and dedication to patients and called on students who complete the nursing diploma education to be ready to join the cadre in order to be able to have many professionals in service delivery areas.
On other side The Minister of Health Zanzibar Nassor Ahmed Mazurui has said that the Ministry has planned to strengthen and improve the Anesthesia and Sleep Profession by educating and developing the practitioners of the cadre as well as buying modern equipment that will make it easier to work more efficiently.
Minister Mazurui has said that the Anesthesia and Sleep cadre has been facing a shortage of specialist doctors and assistant doctors as well as a shortage of modern medical equipment, while in the whole of Zanzibar there are only four (4) specialist Anesthesia and Sleep doctors who are not sufficient according to the need for the treatment .
He has asked students joining colleges to choose a course according to the labor market and the need for professionals including the Anesthesia and Sleep cadre, which will help to find the majority of professionals and experts in the cadre.
During the celebration, anesthesiology and sleep specialist Dr. SABRINA ABDALLA ALI has said that the Sleep and Anesthesia cadre has not been officially recognized like other cadres due to the lack of effective management and an official work performance system.
This is the first time for Zanzibar to celebrate Anesthesia and Sleep Day, which the world celebrates every year on the 16th October and the motto of Zanzibar is “Anesthesia and Sleep, pay attention to safe surgery”
