The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Zanzibar Mgeni Hassan Juma has praised the efforts of the Chinese’s Government in helping Zanzibar in different fields, including the Health sector, especially in the fight against cancer.
She made this statement at the Ijitimai District Hospital when he launched the cervical cancer screening conducted by doctors from China through the Jasmine-CLOVE Institute of Jiangsu from China in collaboration with the Ministry of HealthZanzibar.
She has said that since the start of cervical cancer screening here in Zanzibar, great success has been achieved including the doctors treating those who have been diagnosed with the disease along with local experts to acquire the skills to deal with the disease.
She has informed that Zanzibar will continue to cooperate with China in strengthening various services including the Health Sector, also the exchange of experience for Zanzibar professionals to learn more with the aim of conducting investigations and providing treatment to citizens.
For his part, the Director General of the Ministry of Health Zanzibar Dr. Amour Suleiman Mohamed, has said that in Zanzibar the problem of cervical cancer is very large compared to other parts of the world and contributes significantly to the labor force of the country’s economy.
He informed that the victims of these diseases missed the early basic treatment that why they will not be able to continue with their duties and while spending a lot of money to ensure that they get treatment.
In addition, he has said that the cost of treatment for satanic diseases is very expensive and the normal economy cannot afford to pay for it and the Government is forced to pay for the treatment of these patients by sending them to Tanzania mainland and sometimes abroad where they send around fifty to sixty patients a year and they are paid per month 50 to 60 million.
He said that the investigation carried out by doctors from China helps a lot in detecting cancer problems early and being able to get rid of the medical costs of the disease.
For his part, the Acting Consul General of China in Zanzibar Zhang Ming and a representative from the Clove Institute have said that they will continue to promote the existing cooperation between Zanzibar and China in strengthening health services and other services in this country, especially in the fight against cervical cancer.
Women between the ages of 18 and 69 will be screened for cervical cancer and treated for those diagnosed with the disease while the examination is the seventh time given by doctors from China.
