The Natural Medicine and Alternative Medicine Council has been required to control and manage the Natural Medicine and Alternative Medicine service providers in this country so that they are in line with the changes in Science and Technology and to be able to overcome various problems for the users of these services.
Inaugurating the fifth Council of Natural Medicine and Alternative Medicine at the Ministry of Health, The Minister of Health Zanzibar Nassor Ahmed Mazrui has said that various countries have been able to make great strides in the natural medicine industry by making a significant contribution to the Government through the health sector and being able to help consumers of those remedies.
In addition, he wanted the new Council to do its work with great professionalism in parallel with dealing with the wave of fraudsters who roam the markets, places of worship and various places with the aim of deceiving and misleading the people under the pretext of natural remedies.
He has informed that the launch has gone along with the review of the Health Policy which will bring awareness and a positive direction on the good and better way of control and management of natural medicine services in line with the system of alternative medicine in the country where these services will be strengthened.
He has said that in response to the providers of natural medicine and alternative medicine, the Ministry of Health through the Council will ensure that they provide special training for the preparation of their medicines professionally so that medicines that meet the criteria and safety standards can be registered and recognized in this country and elsewhere.
He said that there are some shops that sell drugs without standards and people buy them and use them and later they lead to various problems including kidney problems, cancer and other side effects.
On his part, the Chairman of the Council of Natural Medicine and Alternative Medicine, Habib Ali Sharif, said that in Zanzibar, more than 80 percent of the people of Zanzibar like to use natural medicine, so the council will ensure that it manages to overcome various problems for the users of these medicines.
He said that in order for the Council to be able to do its work well, it needs to be given money for the monitoring and operation of their work and to be able to deal with fraudsters who practice natural medicine in the wrong way.
